I was child who knew no evil. A vibrant little girl who was eager to learn, to laugh, to discover and play. Not much more to tell as the memories have escaped me and all that was left are the emotional and mental bondages from the trauma. That was all that I carried, that was who I was - broken and useless. A desolate shell. No more smiles, no joy at all - only the taunting voices of my thoughts that ate away my soul, telling me I’m no good.
———————
My release, my escape - alcohol! I had become mastered by a power greater than I could’ve imagined, Satan’s sauce, if you will. Every fiber of my being was taken captive into a darkness, I do not wish upon anyone, and enslaved by a sinister force that would never let me go; bound in chains so tightly that I believed there was no other way, no hope, this was going to be how I would die. There was no escape! At least that is what the enemy wanted me to believe, he had me right where he wanted me.
———————-
The endless years of carrying such heaviness buried me alive. I would cry out for help, cry over my pain, cry over my losses including my dignity. I cried until I had no more tears left to cry, I literally was all dried up; and I was hardened, I felt nothing at all.
———————-
The first sight of hope came when my brokenness reached the point of such crushing that only shards remained - remnants of a girl I hardly knew. This is where God does His finest work! Upon entering Liza’s Place (former name) I took great notice of the genuine love, respect and commitment toward the women in the program. These women that society had once turned their noses from, myself included. It was truly amazing! Marilyn and the volunteers sacrificed a great deal of time and patience to invest in these broken lives. The concern and sincere interest given to each of us began to give me clarity - who I really was and the enemies tactics.
———————
Now with over eleven years of sobriety and a completely renewed life in Christ, I am proof of God’s Almighty power to transform through complete surrendering. However, the surrendering is the most difficult for any woman who has been violated, yet without complete surrendering you will continue going back to the enemy’s path of distruction for your life.

The love and gentle souls of Marilyn and the volunteers provided a sense of safety; their guidance and support created a foundation of stability. Don’t get me wrong, she can be tough but it is a good kind of tough - tough love!

I am certain that there is an incredible seat in heaven reserved just for Marilyn right next to Jesus!

Thank you Marilyn and to all of the resilient volunteers determined
to shine Truth into our misfit lives!
